Obituary: José Luis Sampedro

Writer, philosopher and economist José Luis Sampedro died on Sunday at his home at the most venerable age of 96. Of deep humanist and communist libertarian ideas, Sampedro worked most of his life as professor of economic science, writing a number of works on the matter, some very recently, but he is much better known as fictional author (for example: The Etruscan Smile).

He fought with the Anarchists in the Catalan/Spanish Revolution of 1936-37. He was eventually elected member of the Academy of the Spanish Language, owning the seat F.

Last year he announced the nearing end of Capitalism and what he calls The Age of Money, claiming that younger people already are one step beyond Capitalism.
