Half of India unplugged

(source)
There is a massive blackout in Northern and Eastern India for the second day in a row, affecting 19 states and some 670 million people.

The outage, caused apparently by a growing problem of insufficient of supply in relation to an ever growing demand, has collapsed trains, subways and mine lifters, leaving 200 miners blocked in a gallery (they are safe apparently). Even the Prime Minister's office was without power for hours.

Even if localized outages are common in India, where the demand is often 9% higher than supply, something of this dimension is unprecedented and may be related to a weak monsoon this past year, leaving reservoirs half-empty and temperatures soaring - one among many catastrophic effects of global warming.
